Memory Moon

Privacy policy

Effective September 27, 2026

The short version: your memories are yours. They're encrypted, never sold, never used for ads, and only sent to the AI services below if you say yes. You can download everything, or delete your account and everything in it, whenever you like.

Who runs Memory Moon

Memory Moon is a small, personal service run by Nicholas Gerwitz for family and friends. “We” below means the person running it.

What we keep

  • Your account: your first and last name, your email address, your password (stored only as a one-way hash), and your two-factor settings if you turn them on.
  • Your memories: voice memos, typed notes, photos and videos, transcripts, daily summaries, your chats in Ask, the people and places the app keeps notes on, and any photos you add of them. Photos and videos aren't sent to the AI services.
  • Settings: your time zone, when a new day starts for you, and choices like this one.
  • Sign-in and security records: when you sign in, from which browser or device and IP address, and security events (like a password change), to keep your account safe.
  • Usage counts: how many memos, notes and questions you have, and what the AI services cost to run. These are numbers only, never what you said.

How it's protected

Everything you record or write is encrypted with a key that belongs to your account alone, both where it's stored and in the backups. The server unlocks it only to show it to you and to run the features you use (like transcription). It isn't end-to-end encrypted, so the server itself can read it when it needs to; we don't look at your memories.

Sign-ins can be protected with two-factor authentication, and all connections use HTTPS.

The AI services, only with your permission

When you allow AI features, what you recorded or wrote is sent to these services so they can do their part, and only that:

  • Deepgram: turns your voice memos into text, and reads answers aloud in a natural voice, when you tap Read aloud.
  • Anthropic (Claude): writes each day's summary, keeps notes on people and places, and answers what you ask.

We use their paid, business services. Anthropic and OpenAI don't train their AI on business customers' data by default, and we ask Deepgram not to use your recordings to improve its models. Each service keeps data for a short time under its own privacy terms.

If you don't allow AI features, nothing is sent to them: you can still record and write, and everything is kept safe. Transcripts, summaries, Ask and natural voices simply wait until you turn them on. You can change your mind any time in Settings → Privacy.

Other services that help run it

  • Hosting (Render): runs the website and stores the encrypted database and files.
  • Email (only if set up): sends account emails like confirming your address or resetting your password.
  • Payments (Paddle, only if you buy Plus): Paddle is our reseller. It takes the payment, handles tax and invoices, and keeps your card and billing details under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address, which plan you chose and whether the subscription is active, never your card number. None of your memories go to Paddle.

We don't sell or rent your information, show ads, or use tracking or analytics services. The only cookie is the one that keeps you signed in.

How long we keep it

Your memories are kept until you delete them or your account. Things you delete go to Recently deleted, where you can bring them back.

When you delete your account, it's scheduled for 7 days, so a mistake (or someone who got your password) can't erase everything at once. During that time you can sign in to keep your account or download everything. A Plus subscription stops renewing when you ask, and is cancelled when the account is erased. After that, your memories, recordings, notes, chats, settings and your account's key are erased. Encrypted database backups are kept for 30 days, so within 30 days nothing of your account remains anywhere we control.

Your choices

  • See and download everything: Settings → Safekeeping → Export memories.
  • Correct things: edit transcripts, notes, and people and places at any time.
  • AI features on or off: Settings → Privacy.
  • Delete your account: Settings → Account & security → Delete account (on the website or in the iPhone app).

Children

Memory Moon isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly keep their information.
